Surgical Retractor Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions we are asked most often about surgical retractors, the specialties we manufacture for, and how ordering works with Retractor Maker.
Questions and answers
What is a surgical retractor?
A surgical retractor is an instrument used to hold an incision or body cavity open so the surgeon can see and work in the operative field. Some are held by an assistant, while self-retaining retractors lock in position on their own.
What are surgical retractors used for?
They keep tissue, muscle and organs clear of the working area during an operation. That gives the surgical team a stable view, frees up hands and reduces the need for a second assistant on longer procedures.
What types of surgical retractors does Retractor Maker manufacture?
We manufacture retractors across eight areas: general surgery, urology, cardiovascular, ENT, plastic surgery, orthopedic and spine, neurosurgery, and obstetrics and gynecology. This includes complete self-retaining systems as well as individual blades and components.
How do I choose the right surgical retractor?
Start with the procedure and the depth of the exposure. Deep cavities need longer blades and a table-mounted self-retaining frame, while shallow or short procedures are often managed with hand-held retractors. If you are unsure, send us the procedure and incision details and we will suggest a configuration.
What surgical specialties use retractors?
Almost every open surgical specialty. The most common are general surgery, gynecology, urology, cardiothoracic, orthopedics and spine, neurosurgery, ENT and plastic surgery.
Can I request a quotation for a retractor system?
Yes. Use the quote form, email or WhatsApp with the products, sizes and quantities you need, along with your shipping country, and we will come back with pricing and lead time.
Is Retractor Maker a manufacturer or a reseller?
We are a manufacturer. Our instruments are produced and inspected in our own facility in Sialkot, Pakistan, and supplied directly to hospitals, distributors and OEM customers.
What material are your retractors made from?

Do you supply distributors and OEM customers?
