The working blade is specified as Backward-arching leaf-shaped blade with safe, blunt edges for deep joint manipulation, which spreads retraction force over a wider contact area and reduces point pressure on tissue. The handle is heavy-duty flat ergonomic handle designed for sustained leverage counter-traction, giving a secure, fatigue-resistant grip through long exposures. An overall length of 9.25″ (23.49 cm) broad profile keeps the surgeon's hand clear of the operative field. It is made from surgical-grade stainless steel (aisi 304/420) for glare-free, corrosion-resistant service.

The Chandler Retractor is used in total hip arthroplasty to lever the proximal femur and retract capsular tissue away from the acetabulum, maintaining stable exposure for reaming and component placement.
